What is Low Voltage wiring? Many people may be unfamiliar with the term Low Voltage wiring but it is an electrical term for wiring that does not carry the same amount of current as the regular power outlets, fixtures in a home or business premises, which means it carries a low amount of electricity. Low voltage wiring usually does not pose the same threat level as a high voltage wiring system would have when it comes to the risk of causing injury or death. High Voltage wiring can become extremely dangerous if an individual is exposed to this form of wiring because it poses a higher risk of causing both electrical shock and electric arcing. High voltage is usually considered to be any form of wiring that has the potential to cause harm or injury directly. With low voltage wiring, however, there may be a little risk of electrical shock but no or very little chance of electric arcing. The major difference between these two forms of wiring aside the amount of voltage that flows through the wiring is the level of threat they pose to human life. What is considered Low Voltage?

The National Electrical Code (NEC) does not consistently define low voltages; however, there is a general acceptance by most technicians that voltage of not greater than 30 volts Alternating Current (AC) and 60 volts Direct Current (DC) forms the dividing line between a high voltage and low voltage wiring. Circuits, wiring and equipment operating at less than 50 volts are generally considered low voltage. Low Voltage is the wiring used for systems such as cable television, telephone systems and data network systems, doorbell, surround sound and wiring of speakers, security systems etc.

It is generally recommended that home and office owners make provisions for wired systems such as telephones, cabling for network and data systems, surround sound and even security systems by installing the cable if they have the walls open and available even if they think they will never have to use a hard-wired network because of availability of wireless networks, this is because wired connections are more secure, more reliable, and faster in most cases than any wireless options currently available. K&B Communications offers the very best in low voltage wiring. In fact, the presence of absence of a low voltage wiring can negatively or positively affect a home or office space appraisals, this is because having low voltage wiring is expected in new homes. K & B communications recommends a minimum one data port to each bedroom or office desk, TV location, phone jack, and any other places where a computer,TV or sound system is to be installed, this makes it easy to deploy telephone systems such as PBX and VOIP, LAN systems through already existing low voltage cabling for data, TV and wall mounted speakers through the surround sound low voltage wiring of speakers as well as CCTV for security camera installation. No one ever regrets running too many low voltage wiring points.
